some new paintings

Hit kind of a dead end with one of my musical projects, so ive been painting more.

This last one is a work in progress, and of course miss wobbleton is deeply contemplating it.

This is the current state of my practice canvas. Its a 30×40 in canvas that i experiment on. I tried to express something darker than usual, even tho the actual process of painting it was enjoyable.

practice canvas 01

This is the current state of my practice canvas, which i plan to just paint over repeatedly to explore ideas and techniques.  Its 30×40 inches.

some feelings

22×28 in
i think i want to do a much larger version of this. i built the colors up slowly with thin layers, seeing what happens when you overlap different hues. i tried to do it patiently.

an unsettling dream

At this point, language cannot express what mr stick is experiencing, so im unable to ramble about the meanings i see in it. I imagine he is thinking ‘how did i get here?’. Obviously this painting is dominated by color, it was fun getting areas to blend together into a sort of fog.

if i am not

if i am not this island then what am i?

24×30 inches
Im putting these mindscapes under ‘mixed media/conceptual’ now, its the closest category i can think of.

So here is a human who identified itself with the island it lived on, but has begun to realize it is differentiating from the island, becoming something separate. Outside of the island is a sort of vaporous mass of colors, giving the stick figure no real clue about what is outside the island.

Spoiler alert: mr stick is already considering building a raft or boat.

Sometimes you just have to relax and let the future come to you.  This is just a piece from my practice canvas.

poor mr ego

a surreal mindscape

captions show up at the bottom and say things like this

Hopefully mr ego can get off his island.
Note the colors seem off because i am unskilled with cameras.

So this would be another mindscape. I was reading a book about the ideas of Lacan and it painted a sad picture of what the ego really does; it fits all of our perceptions together to give the false impression that we are in control.

That would seem a hopeless position if you thought the ego was your real identity or perspective, but i think Jung and Lacan would agree that this does not have to be the case.

Jung imagined the ideal perspective to be directly center between the ego and the unconscious, acting as a translator and mediator. Im not sure what Lacan thinks, he is fucking annoying to read lol.

Anyway this also started as a red/purple color field painting but my mind keeps superimposing these landscape/mindscape archetypes or whatever, and i feel that i should follow those suggestions.
